Ancient Curtains 2025. Nemi yard of ideas.

In the evocative setting of the Museum of Roman Ships, overlooking the shores of Lake Nemi, "Antichi Sipari" returns, a multidisciplinary project conceived by the Museum of Roman Ships, directed by Daniela De Angelis, afferent to the Lazio National Museums Regional Directorate, directed by Elisabetta Scungio, in collaboration with the Cultural Association Teatro Mobile. Headphone theater, itinerant, site-specific for the enhancement of an emblematic place of our extraordinary cultural heritage: the Museum of Roman Ships, surrounded by the beautiful naturalistic setting of Lake Nemi.

Ancient Curtains 2025. Nemi yard of ideas wants to propose in a systematic way new artistic activities with writings of unpublished works and texts chosen according to the place, which will allow an enhancement of a jewel of rationalist architecture, a spectacular landscape setting and archaeological contexts still little known.

The events designed in collaboration with Mobile Theater, which are always zero-impact, fit admirably into this perspective: the technical means employed are portable and self-powered instruments. In the time of individuality and solitude, in the desire-need for independent and exclusive listening paths, we have devised an experimental formula of headphone listening for a user-spectator-viewer. With the use of real-time and/or pre-recorded radio broadcasting and digital control technology, the spectator participates in the event (including touring) by listening in headphones to the textual, sound and musical score and encountering in its movement the places, bodies and happenings. Spaces traversed and spectacular visions, staging conceived as installations. Listening through headphones is highly immersive, has no "acoustic impact" and creates no disturbance to traditional visitors.

The year 2025 for the Nemi Museum of Roman Ships will be a year of great renewal and novelty: several construction sites are affecting the museum for restoration and refurbishment, so much so that the museum's motto for 2025 is "Open for Work."

In this perspective of continuity of cultural offerings so as not to "abandon" the public is the programming for the Antichi Sipari 2025 project, which bears the subtitle "Nemi yard of ideas," with a double reference to both the building's major renovation activities and the many ongoing cultural initiatives.

The project will feature 12 events from April 19 to October 26, 2025, which will be complemented by other activities in collaboration with the ChissàDove Association and Il Soffiasogni Bookstore.

The events will be combined with guided tours, conferences and meetings involving scholars and experts, in collaboration with partners of the Nemi Documentation and Study Center.
