National Archaeological Museum of the Agro Falisco and Fort Sangallo

The National Archaeological Museum of Agro Falisco and Forte Sangallo is housed inside Forte Sangallo, a prestigious military structure commissioned by Alexander VI Borgia, who entrusted its construction to Antonio da Sangallo the Elder in 1495. Under the pontificate of Julius II the work was continued by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger. Considered one of the most important military works of the time, the fort was a papal residence until the early 1800s, when it was adapted as a prison, while during World War II it became a refuge for numerous evacuees.
Since 1977 it has been home to the Archaeological Museum of the Agro Falisco, divided into nine rooms, located on the main floor of the palace in the rooms originally used as papal apartments, and set up according to topographical and chronological order criteria on the evidence from the ancient Falisco territory.

Free entrance to the building for a maximum of 30 visitors at a time.
Groups are strongly advised to book: sara.deangelis@cultura.gov.it. Groups are limited to 25 + guide.
The visit includes the sala rotonda, cortile minore, cortile maggiore and the museum (large museum and small museum).

Comfortable shoes. There are no drinking fountains or cafeteria services inside.
Photography is allowed.
The train station, on the Roma-Viterbo line, is 700 metres away. The cotral bus stop is 500 metres away.
Ample free parking 200 metres away (Via del Velvedere Falerii Veteres - SP 76). Just outside the fortress there is paid parking.
Access to the museum and courtyard is by elevator.
