On the shores of Lake Diana - May 12, 2024

A new double event of the cultural review On the Shores of Lake Diana, curated by Museum Director Daniela De Angelis and realized thanks to the collaboration between the Museum of Roman Ships in Nemi and the social promotion association Legio XXX Ulpia Victrix.

On May 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Legio XXX Vlpia Victrix Association will take visitors on a tour dedicated to theArs medica; instruments of ancient surgery faithfully reproduced according to the descriptions of the Roman encyclopedist and physician Aulus Cornelius Celsus, who lived between the first century B.C. and the first century A.D., will be shown.

Mauro Tomassi, curator of the educational table will present the fundamentals of ancient general surgery and show through a mannequin how battle wounds were treated in military camps.

Also discussed will be ancient obstetric surgery and Galen, a physician of the late second century A.D., after whom the preparations we find in pharmacies today are named. Finally, there will be no shortage of anecdotes and legends related to the cult of Aesculapius and the shrine dedicated to him on Tiber Island.

From 10:30 a.m. the museum will also host the experimental archaeological workshop "Offerings to the Gods," organized by the cultural association ChissàDove.

It will be a journey to discover the cults of the ancient world and the expression of religiosity of the Etruscans and Romans, among the shrines and votive offerings dedicated to the gods. We will look at the Museum's showcases containing artifacts from the area's sanctuaries and in particular from the sacred cave of Pantanacci. The ancient techniques of clay extraction, purification and processing will be discovered together. The workshop will allow each child, through manipulation, to make his or her own artifact, drawing inspiration from the ancient ceramic artifacts.

The workshop, which lasts about two hours, is suitable for children 6 years of age and older (primary/secondary school), has no additional cost and is included in the Museum entrance fee. Reservation required at drm-laz.naviromane@cultura.gov.it
