Roll the dice!

Ancient games, archaeology and territory at the Archaeological Museum of Agro Falisco

On Friday, May 31 at 5 p.m. at the Sangallo Fort in Civita Castellana, the exhibition "Roll the dice! Board games between archaeology and territory at the Archaeological Museum of Agro Falisco." Conceived as part of the PCTO "Falerii: a pre-Roman city is told" (Sapienza University of Rome), in close collaboration with the Lazio National Museums Regional Directorate, it aims to fully exploit the conception of board games, centered on the archaeological emergencies of the Falisco area, created by students of the U. Midossi High School of Art in Civita Castellana.

The exhibition itinerary, divided into three sections, will accompany the visitor into the world of games in antiquity and beyond. A first, archaeological one, in which parts of games found in Faliscan funerary contexts will be presented to the public, will be flanked by a part devoted to the presentation of studies and the genesis of board games, made for the occasion, which are also meant to be an invitation to discover the territory and its archaeological riches.
Finally, in a specially prepared space, it will be possible for the public to test the games and, thanks to the collaboration with the European Research Project Locus Ludi (Université de Fribourg), also virtually immerse themselves in the experiments of reconstructions of ancient strategy games.

The opening of the exhibition route will also be an opportunity to present to the public the further actions of the PCTO "Falerii: a pre-Roman city is told," conducted withIIS U. Midossi (Agrarian of Civita Castellana and audiovisual of Vignanello) and with the Liceo Linguistico of Nepi A. Meucci and that go in the direction of structuring the didactic apparatus of the future Vignale Park, in a virtuous collaboration relationship between the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the province of Viterbo and Southern Etruria, the Regional Direction National Museums Lazio, the Department of Sciences of Antiquity of the Sapienza University of Rome and the Municipality of Civita Castellana.
