ULYSSES AND HIS TRAVELS
National Archaeological Museum of Sperlonga (Lt), May 18-July 30, 2023
"Deposits (re)discovered...in Sperlonga" is one of the exhibition moments that comes from the collaboration between the National Roman Museum and the Lazio Regional Museums Directorate that will allow to give voice again to the many artifacts usually kept in deposits through a series of short exhibitions. After a first stop at the Museum of Roman Ships in Nemi (Rm) with "Depositi (re)scoperti...a Nemi," the project lands at the National Archaeological Museum in Sperlonga with the exhibition Ulysses and His Travels.
Ulysses and his travels is dedicated precisely to the figure of Ulysses , to the hero's journey and to the journeys of the sculptures that represent him: the works from the deposits of the National Roman Museum, therefore, complement the works of the National Archaeological Museum of Sperlonga, creating a lively and active dialogue between institutions. It was precisely to the National Roman Museum, which had the task of housing the main finds of Rome and Latium, that the sculptures from Sperlonga had been destined at first; instead, the National Archaeological Museum was built in 1963 to house them in the place where they had been discovered.
