“The Spirit of the Place” comes to life in Tuscania. Music, theater, film, and cultural heritage come together to capture the essence of a living museum.
Tuscania (VT)
From May 3 to October 4, 2026, the National Archaeological Museum of Tuscania, the Church of San Pietro, the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, and the city’s historical and artistic heritage will serve as the setting for “The Spirit of the Place, ” a new cultural project promoted by the Lazio Regional Directorate of National Museums of the Ministry of Culture, with support from the Municipality of Tuscania.
A program featuring live performances, concerts, theater, guided tours, and art talks that transforms Tuscania into a grand narrative weaving together tangible heritage and intangible memory, highlighting the deep connection between these places, their history, and the communities that call them home.
The project is funded by the Directorate General for the Performing Arts of the Ministry of Culture as part of a call for proposals aimed at promoting live performing arts in cultural institutions and venues (D.D.G. October 2, 2025, Ref. No. 1507) and is organized by the Lazio Regional Directorate of National Museums, conceived by Sonia Martone, with performances curated by the Ikona Association under the artistic direction of Maestro Stefano Saletti, and the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina under the artistic direction of Maestro Giuseppe Lanzetta.
The program will open on May 3 at the Church of San Pietro with a performance by the Micrologus ensemble of *Venite a laudare: Medieval Franciscan Lauds from the 13th–15th Centuries*. As one of Italy’s longest-standing and most respected ensembles dedicated to the revival of medieval music, Micrologus presents a project focused on one of the most significant aspects of the spiritual and communal renewal of the Middle Ages: the lauda.
Nine more events will follow, featuring prominent artists and performers such as Massimo Popolizio, Pejman Tadayon, the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina conducted by Giuseppe Lanzetta, Stefano Saletti, and Raffaella Misiti, culminating in events dedicated to Pasolini and the 800th Franciscan anniversary in 2026.
In addition to the performances, which will take place both inside and outside the Church of San Pietro, the project includes special open house events, guided tours, art talks, and special activities in conjunction with the European Heritage Days, creating a cultural itinerary that weaves together artistic experiences, exploration of the local area, and the promotion of local heritage.
