NRP Projects - Intervention 1.2

Project "Removal of physical and cognitive barriers at the National Archaeological Museum of Civitavecchia: reorganization of accessibility and museum spaces; re-paneling including through creation of digital paths, digital tools to support the visit"

NRP - Mission 1, Component 3 - Culture 4.0 (M1C3); Measure 1 Cultural Heritage for the Next Generation; Investment 1.2 - Removing physical and cognitive barriers in museums, libraries and archives to enable wider access and participation in culture. Funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU and managed by the Ministry of Culture.

The accessibility project specifically commits to equipping the museum with tools for educational communication for all and especially for visitors in fragile situations, with disabilities or reduced mobility, as well as people with intellectual disabilities and/or neurodevelopmental disorders. The didactic panels, captions and any content will be designed with simple texts and in two languages, Italian and English; through the audioguide tool, implementation with other languages (French, German or Japanese) can be envisaged to meet the increasingly heterogeneous presence of foreigners in the city, who are 60 percent of the museum's visitors. Braille text is embossed on the captions. Audio guides of the OrpheoTOUCH type with Wi-fi technology and the tracks detectable by IR sensors placed on different works or showcases are planned. The multimedia contribution will be crucial in the new educational path. "Multimedia" refers to a form of communication characterized by the coexistence and interaction of multiple languages (written texts, images, sounds, music, lighting and animations). Emotional projections on giant screens, with sound and sound commentaries, audio and/or written texts will give the museum experience a special contribution that can make the same experience unique and memorable. In addition, in the museum itinerary, the projected or monitor videos will include sign language teaching (LIS) so that the contents will be understandable to the deaf, while the visually impaired will be able to enjoy audio commentaries with exciting music and sound contributions. The idea of the team that worked on the layout design and accessible education was from the beginning in agreement to think of a narrative museum, which tells in an easily understandable way, through a series of multimedia projections, the themes of the territory inhabited in Etruscan times and the Roman Centumcellae. In more detail, the path of these narratives takes place on the various floors of the building, and each floor presents a narrative. On the ground floor, after purchasing a ticket, visitors will find themselves in a large unified double-height space and will be involved in viewing the large projection on the wall measuring approximately 12 by 3 meters. It is in this case an emotional and immersive vision, in which the educational part is present, punctuated by some meaningful text, while a light musical sound track invades the space and in the audio guides there is a commentary to the images for the visually impaired. On the gallery floor is a re-enactment of the tympanum of the Etruscan sanctuary Temple of Punta della Vipera. Multimedia here is enriched with a new component, interactivity, which allows not only the educational content to be enjoyed through a visual demonstration but also to be able to make it a lived experience by making the territorial contexts of the Etruscan temple understood. The second floor will be the place for a comprehensive multimedia educational narrative for Civitavecchia and its territory. Three video projection systems with Brighsign synchronization technology will allow enjoyment through wall projections of the various themes conceived and thought of with the scientific committee. A display for an Etruscan urn will be set up on the third floor, placed in a dominant position at the end of the hall. An educational video will be projected on the wall, briefly describing the exceptional nature of the object: the creation of a three-dimensional digital model will make it easier and more inclusive to understand the decorative features, through an immersive visit from inside the work. Visually impaired people will be allowed to touch the exhibited works in order to get to know them and thus be able to see and perceive them with other senses.

Project "Access for all: breaking down physical and cognitive barriers National Archaeological Museum and Archaeological Area of Sperlonga (Lt)"

First and foremost, the project aims to make the Villa of Tiberius accessible to people with mobility disabilities with the creation of a system of walkways that will allow the removal of architectural barriers. It is also planned to create illustrative panels that the archaeological area currently lacks with content that will be reproduced in Braille along the handrails of the walkways for the blind public. The interventions in the museum, on the other hand, will be aimed at facilitating the reading of the works on display according to a coherent path and in close relation to the archaeological context of reference through the revision of the museum's communicative project, with a focus on the narrative of the events related to the figure of Odysseus. The new illustrative panels (in highly readable Italian and English) will have a verbal content message and a more evocative one in images, where color contrast will be used not only to highlight the precious collection of sculptures but to facilitate their reading for the visually impaired public.
