Ancient Age
Casinum Archaeological Park and National Archaeological Museum "G. Carettoni"
Cassino (FR)
The National Archaeological Museum named after Gianfilippo Carettoni, has been built since 1966, close to the walls of ancient Casinum. Various monuments from Roman times emerge in the archaeological area, including the imposing Amphitheater, the Mausoleum of Ummidia Quadratilla, and a section of Roman road with masonry substructures.
The Museum exhibits important finds documenting the development of the city and the territory from pre/protohistoric times through to Late Antiquity. These include the famous Sword of San Vittore (4th-3rd century BCE), the Athlete/Hero of Cassino and the funerary bed of Aquinum.
