The Lazio National Museums Regional Directorate coordinates and promotes state museums at the regional level by fostering collaboration with other territorial entities to improve the quality of services.
The Lazio National Museums Regional Directorate (formerly Polo Museale, formerly Lazio Regional Museums Directorate) was established in 2014 with the reform of the Ministry of Culture, with the aim of enhancing the enhancement activities of Italian museums.
Coordinated by the General Directorate of Museums, the Regional Directorate is responsible for coordinating state cultural venues in the local area to ensure the implementation of the public service of enjoyment and appreciation of museums, monuments and archaeological areas, guaranteeing uniform levels of quality.
In collaboration with the ministerial Superintendencies, and both regional and local bodies, it encourages the expansion of the museums’ permanent collections, the organisation of temporary exhibitions and the cataloguing, study and restoration of the objects to be displayed, as well as explaining and promoting the region’s cultural heritage.
By defining common strategies and goals, collaboration with the region’s other cultural bodies is encouraged, with the aim of creating cultural and tourist itineraries, and for educational and technological creativity.
It works to encourage the active participation of visitors and maximise access to the museums that house the archaeological, artistic and historical heritage of Lazio.
