Villa Lante - The new signage system

Simple, clear and accessible, with a specifically declined modern design, the new signage system of Villa Lante, Bagnaia di Viterbo, is presented on Friday, August 2, Villa Lante 5:30 p.m. , which, through the renewal of the panels that mark the external space of the garden, and the new realization of those for the internal rooms of the Palazzine, allow visitors to orient themselves in the visit path and simplify the reading of the works.
Specifically, the intervention of Villa Lante's signage included the placement of plaques with informative symbols at the reception area; of a graphic map of the site placed at the 'entrance capable of orienting the visitor on the visiting paths of the Park and the formal garden; the replacement of the 16 exterior panels that, starting from the Fountain of Pegasus at the entrance, mark the itinerary of the square garden on the lower terrace, up to the scenic layout of fountains, water features and natural elements; the ex novo placement of 15 totems in the interior rooms of the Gambara and Montalto Palazzina, illustrating its architectural appearance and pictorial decorations.
With a view to broadening the accessibility and enjoyment of the site, the project, supported by Villa Manager Lara Anniboletti, also included the development of a paper brochure to be delivered with the entrance ticket to the visitor, with map indications of 15 selected points of interest in the park and garden, and a scope-specific brochure designed for a target audience of children, including games on the theme of visiting Villa Lante, which can also be used as part of educational visits.
The new internal signage, designed by the Wolli&Felix agency, is simple, clear, accessible and consistent; in the external panels anchored to metal structures, the green and blue of the graphic lines recall water and vegetation - the prevailing elements of the Villa - while for the visual aspect of the concept, selected decorative details of the fountains and garden have been artistically redesigned. For the interior totems, on the other hand, consistent with the choice of greater mimesis in order to ensure the legibility of the decorative elements of the rooms, a transparent plexigas with the graphic sign printed on it was chosen. The text is flanked by the stylized heraldic emblems of the Villa's two main proponents, Cardinal Gambara and Cardinal Montalto, while, in order to make the visitor better understand the complex pictorial decoration of the lower vestibules of the mansions, an architectural simplification of the two interiors was resorted to.
In a simple and inclusive language, elaborated by the Villa Lante management staff coordinated by Marzia Sagini and Ernesto Sapienza. The narrative is organized on a short text, with selected information designed for a broad target of users, referring more detailed knowledge to specific insights.
The project of the new signage system of Villa Lante concretizes the commitment of the Regional Directorate National Museums Lazio directed by Elisabetta Scungio to enhance and integrate in the national museum system, adapting them to national standards, the afferent cultural institutes.
