Farnese Occasions - June 1, 2024

For the first cycle of meetings of the "Farnese Occasions" and on the occasion of the seventh edition of "Appointment in the Garden," on Saturday, June 1, at 4:30 p.m., there will be a conference, curated by Marina Cogotti, entitled "For a barchitto I have made in this place of Caprarola. The garden of Palazzo Farnese between research and restoration."

Somewhat forgotten by the historiography of the Farnese complex of Caprarola, which also has a vast bibliography, the 'Barchetto' or 'Great Garden' is back in the limelight thanks to a renewed attention that sees it as the protagonist of the restorations underway, thanks to funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. A valuable opportunity for an update of the state of knowledge and for an in-depth study of this garden, a hidden surprise in the large park, which Cardinal Alessandro Farnese sought with conviction and his nephew Odoardo brought to completion, adapting the villa to the languages that garden art was expressing in new forms at the turn of the century.
