LIVIA AND THE OTHERS TELL
Stories of women, amid myths and legends, discovering the southern Pontine region
Exhibition spread across museums in the southern Pontine region from April 5 to June 2, 2024
For the first time, a widespread exhibition was to be held in the south Pontine area, set up at the same time in five Archaeological Museums, inspired by and dedicated to female figures, mythological or really lived, from the Roman era: "Livia and the others tell - stories of women, between myths and legends, discovering the south Pontine," which will take place from Fridaỳ April 5 to Sunday, June 2, 2024.
This is a new and unprecedented project for the Lazio Regional Museums Directorate, directed by Stefano Petrocchi, which was born from the collaboration between the Director of the Archaeological Museums of Sperlonga and Formia, Cristiana Ruggini, the Director of the Archaeological Museums of Priverno, Margherita Cancellieri, the Director of the Archaeological Museum of Fondi, Alfredo Moraci, and the President of the #AmolamiaTerra Aps Ets Association, Lisa Tibaldi Grassi.
Women and Museums located along a physical as well as virtual path, from the southern border of the Lazio region, Minturno, up the Appian Way and along the Francigena route, through Formia, Sperlonga, Fondi, to Priverno.
Sixty-four unique, "site-specific" sartorial creations, made by fashion designer and creative Lisa Tibaldi Grassi, creator of the project, for the #AmolamiaTerra Aps Ets Association, are distributed in the different sites to represent sixty women who tell stories of life and places through an emotional and multisensory narrative.
Welcoming visitors to each museum is the figure of Livia Drusilla, wife of Augustus to tell the story of the land, accompanied by the "museum godmother" who introduces the exhibition. So we will find Marìca in Minturno, Tulliola in Formia, Circe in Sperlonga, Pollia in Fondi and Camilla in Priverno, and with them many other characters, for an all-female narrative.
Each godmother has a different color to represent certain characteristics.
The rest of the installations are, vice versa, all in shades of white, to better integrate with the sculptures present: an exhibition that tiptoes into the settings in a harmonious dialogue between ancient and modern.
Special attention and care is also given to the environmental sustainability of the exhibition through the use of discarded and salvaged materials, for the creation of part of the installations, and creative recycling for some of the accessories placed in the installations.
Stories of history, stories of stories... An event already welcomed and appreciated by the many institutions that have decided to sponsor and promote it: Lazio Region; CCIAA of Frosinone and Latina; Province of Latina that has included it among the events of "Via Appia Regina Viarum."
