The garden of the cardinals. Knowledge, restoration, biodiversity in the gardens of Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola.
Caprarola (VT)
Convention Ihe garden of the cardinals. Knowledge, restoration, biodiversity in the gardens of Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola.
Farnese Palace - Caprarola
November 9, 2024, 10:00 a.m.
The day, promoted by the Regional Directorate National Museums Lazio and the Monumental Villas of Tuscia, is dedicated to the presentation of projects intended for the state-owned historic parks and gardens of Palazzo Farnese, financed by the PNRR call "Programs to enhance the identity of places: historic parks and gardens." Projects that move from the concept of integrated and multidisciplinary restoration, as historical gardens require, which in the relationships between the different components - water, greenery, architecture, landscape, nature - fully explicate the artistic values for which they are celebrated, but also the vitality of the relationship with the communities of proximity.
The conference, which focuses on the gardens of the Farnese villa in Caprarola, presents the first outcomes of the restoration work that is nearing completion, carried out thanks to funding obtained under the investment line for historic parks and gardens provided by the PNRR.
The multidisciplinary approach, aimed at governing the complexity of the garden, has been a formidable driver for the deepening of knowledge about the creation desired by the "great cardinal" Alessandro Farnese and Vignola, later completed by his grandson Odoardo in the early seventeenth century.
Scholars and experts will offer the first outcomes of the body of knowledge acquired, both in terms of historical-critical aspects of garden architecture and the naturalistic and biodiversity aspects that the project aimed to bring to light.
