AperiCicero at Sunset
Formia (LT)
“AperiCicero at Sunset”
Saturday, October 3, 2026, starting at 5:00 p.m.
The initiative, organized in collaboration withthe Associazione Formiana Saxa APS, offers a dramatized tour exploring Cicero’s Tomb and daily life in the Roman world. Legionnaires and other figures from the era will accompany visitors on a journey through history and reenactment, featuring stories and interactive displays dedicated to a legionnaire’s gear, games played in antiquity, and nutrition during military campaigns. Cicero’s Tomb is located in Formia at kilometer 139 of the Regina viarum. Nestled in a garden of conifers and olive trees, the imposing mausoleum—24 meters tall and dating back to the late Republican era—is traditionally attributed to Cicero and his family. The monument is located near the orator’s ancient villa, where Cicero was killed in 43 B.C.
It will be an opportunity to rediscover one of the most significant sites of ancient Formia along the route of the Via Appia, through an experience that combines archaeology, history, and conviviality.
The tour will conclude with an sunset aperitif, to share a convivial moment in one of the most evocative spots along the Appian Way: here’s to Cicero!
This event is part of the official Appia Day 2026 program.
Free admission; no reservation required.
