From August 5, 2025: introduction of the entrance fee for the National Archaeological Museum of Tuscania
Tuscania (Viterbo) - Beginning Aug. 5, 2025, there will be an entrance fee to visit the National Archaeological Museum of Tuscania, set up in the picturesque setting of the former Franciscan convent of Santa Maria del Riposo.
The introduction of the ticket was approved by the Lazio National Museums Regional Directorate by Decree No. 103 of June 26, 2025, after receiving clearance from the General Directorate of Museums of the Ministry of Culture. It is part of strategies for the protection, enhancement and enjoyment of national cultural places promoted by the same Ministry.
The decision to introduce an entrance fee is based on the need to ensure the preservation and maintenance of the monumental complex, thus finding additional resources for the three-year program of interventions for the protection and restoration of national cultural places, financed by the Ministry of Culture. This measure is in line with the priority objectives identified in the Minister of Culture's Policy Act for 2025-2027 (Ministerial Decree Jan. 21, 2025), which provides for, among other things, the economic enhancement of cultural heritage and the promotion of cultural development. The measure aims to improve the quality of enjoyment of cultural places, while ensuring their protection and decorum, through the activation of a tool also aimed at having their socio-cultural value recognized.
The cost of the ordinary ticket will be set at 5 euros, with a reduction to 2 euros for EU citizens between the ages of 18 and 25, as stipulated by current ministerial regulations for state museums and places of culture. In addition, a cumulative admission ticket will be available for the museum circuit of the National Archaeological Museums of Northern Lazio, with which it will be possible to access five extraordinary places: the Archaeological Museum of Vulci and Abbadia Castle (Canino, Viterbo), the National Etruscan Museum of Rocca Albornoz (Viterbo), the National Archaeological Museum of Agro Falisco and Forte Sangallo (Civita Castellana - Viterbo), the National Archaeological Museum of Civitavecchia (Rome), and the National Archaeological Museum of Tuscania (Viterbo), at the price of 15 euros, which will allow one admission to each site valid for one year from the date of purchase, offering a unique opportunity to explore the fascination of antiquity in northern Lazio.
Free admissions for the categories of visitors stipulated by current regulations remain guaranteed, including access for events that will be organized in the spaces of the monument complex.
To enable the purchase of tickets on the spot, a totem has been installed at the entrance of the monument complex that will allow visitors to buy tickets with payment by both cash and credit cards. It will also be available to purchase tickets via the App(Android/IOS) and the Italian Museums platform(www.museiitaliani.it/acquista-biglietto) through which it will be possible to make advance online purchases, as well as check up-to-date information on the opening hours of the monumental complex.
All information will be published and constantly updated on the institutional website of the Regional Directorate National Museums Lazio, on the social channels of the Directorate and on the dedicated social channels of the National Archaeological Museum of Tuscania.
