Project "Interventions to improve physical and cognitive accessibility"
NRP - Mission 1, Component 3 - Culture 4.0 (M1C3); Measure 1 Cultural Heritage for the Next Generation; Investment 1.2 - Removing physical and cognitive barriers in museums, libraries and archives to enable wider access and participation in culture. Funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU and managed by the Ministry of Culture.
Due to its complex articulation, the site of Palazzo Farnese to date presents itself as poorly accessible by users with mobility limitations. The project first aims to adapt the museum to these unavoidable physical accessibility needs by making all visitable spaces fully usable. New accessible restrooms will also be built, in addition to the only existing ones, which are insufficient for the needs of such a large area as the entire monumental complex. The project aims, however, to make the visit easier in general, including the creation of a visit circuit with facilitated accessibility for diversified users. Also in terms of cognitive accessibility, much remains to be done, since the only tools the museum has at the moment is a bilingual paneling system, which serves all the visiting environments. Such paneling will meanwhile be adapted and extended to the gardens as well. In order to tell the story of a place like Palazzo Farnese, innovative languages will also be used, aimed at integrating the narrative and facilitating access to the message, which can be delivered through different types of digital media, including those of common dissemination. In this sense, it will be necessary to adapt infrastructure networks in order to create the technological corridors for virtual content. Special attention will be paid to the complete removal of cognitive barriers with respect to different types of disabled people, with specifically dedicated paths and aids to visitation.
