This initiative is part of the educational and outreach activities promoted by the National Archaeological Museum of Civitavecchia through its “Quaderni del Museo” series. The third volume is dedicated to Pietro Manzi (1785–1839), a leading figure in the city’s cultural life during the first three decades of the 19th century.
The book reconstructs a significant moment in the history of Civitavecchia, marked by the work of Manzi—a lawyer and archaeology enthusiast—in a context characterized by the discovery of Etruscan necropolises, the phenomenon of the Grand Tour, and the emergence of antiquities collecting.
Through the analysis of documentary sources, the work provides a glimpse into the archaeological rediscovery of the region and the cultural and commercial networks that facilitated the circulation of artifacts, helping to shed light on the origins of the Museum’s collections as a place of preservation and memory of the city’s historical identity.
