On Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., theNational Archaeological Museum of Tuscaniawill host the presentation of the book"Turscna, Tuscana, Toscanella, Tuscania." Proceedings of the Study Day for Maria Donatella Gentili, edited by Francesco Buranelli and Anna Maria Moretti Sgubini (Edizioni Quasar).
The initiative is organized bythe Regional DirectorateofNational Museums of Lazioandthe "Vincenzo Campanari" Study Association, and represents an important opportunity to share the results of research dedicated to the history and heritage of Tuscania.
The volume collects the proceedings of the study day held on October 7, 2023, at the National Archaeological Museum of Tuscania, promoted by the Vincenzo Campanari Study Association in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Lazio and the Institute of Cultural Heritage Sciences of the National Research Council (CNR-ISPC) in Florence.
The work was created as a tribute to Maria Donatella Gentili (1956–2019), scholar and professor of Etruscology, a leading figure in the study of Hellenistic clay sarcophagi and a central figure in the protection and promotion of Tuscania's heritage.
At the heart of the research are two Etruscan sarcophagi from the Hellenistic period, which have recently been returned to Italy thanks to the efforts of the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage. The study of the artifacts, enriched by non-invasive scientific analyses and stylistic-archaeological insights, broadens the view of the historical evolution of Tuscania from its protohistoric origins to the archaic and Hellenistic phases, with contributions dedicated to funerary architecture, rock contexts, relations with the main Etruscan centers in the area, and epigraphic aspects.
