The Unicities - European Researchers' Night 2024

Researchers' Night - S.T.R.E.E.T.S. project is an initiative promoted by the European Commission since 2005 that involves thousands of researchers and research institutions across Europe every year. For this year's edition, theUniversity of Cassino and Lazio Meridionale (Unicas), which is a member of the S.T.R.E.T.S. -Science, Technology and Research for Ethical Engagement Translated in Society project, has requested the collaboration of the Lazio National Museums Regional Directorate to host its first day, dedicated to the inauguration of the series of events organized by Unicas, which will take place on Thursday, September 26 at the National Archaeological Museum and Villa Tiberio in Sperlonga (LT), starting at 5 p.m.
After institutional greetings by Marco Dell'Isola, Magnifico Rettore of the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio; Elisabetta Scungio, Director of the Regional Directorate of National Museums Lazio; Luigi Ferrigno, Functional Pro-rector for Third Mission - Unicas; and Ivana Bruno, Delegate for the Dissemination of Culture and Knowledge (SCIRE) - Unicas; there will follow the archaeological walk "Sperlonga between Myth and History" that will pass through the halls of the Museum and the remains of the villa of Emperor Tiberius. Along the route there will also be a visit to the cave linked to the myth of Ulysses, with the guidance of Cristiana Ruggini, director of the Archaeological Museum, and with the participation of Antonella Prenner, professor of Latin Language and Literature in the Department of Letters and Philosophy (Unicas), as well as author of historical novels dedicated to figures such as Cicero, Caesar and Messalina, set in part in the very archaeological areas of the walk.
Following this, actors Teresa Recchia, Leda Panaccione, Paola Spallino and Fabrizio Nardone of Unicas' Centro Universitario Teatrale (CUT), under the direction of Giorgio Mennoia, will perform excerpts from Homer's "Odyssey," Virgil's "Aeneid" and Antonella Prenner - Unicas' novel "Il canto di Messalina" (Rizzoli, 2022).
