Viterbo (VT)
Tuesday, March 10, at 5:00 p.m.
Opening of the exhibition of the altarpiece "Saint Anthony of Padua, the Virgin Mary, and Christ the Judge protect the city of Viterbo" at the National EtruscanMuseumof Rocca Albornoz (VT).
The work, dated 1544 and recently restored by the Lazio Regional Directorate of National Museums as part of the project to enhance the Basilica of San Francesco alla Rocca, will be presented to the public on an extraordinary basis before returning to its original location. The decision to hold a temporary exhibition in the museum stems from the desire to offer visitors the opportunity to admire it up close, appreciating its details, pictorial quality, and iconographic richness.
At the end of the temporary exhibition, the altarpiece will be relocated to a new position in the Basilica: in the apse area, on the other side of the restored medieval fresco fragment, and no longer along the nave as in the past.
The initiative is also part of the celebrations for the eighth centenary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi (1226–2026).
