Viae Crucum
Tuscania (VT)
On Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 4:30 p.m. at the National Archaeological Museum in Tuscania, the exhibition Viae Crucum curated by Giuseppe Salerno, with the participation of the artists: Tonina Cecchetti, Giulia Napoleone, Tommaso Cascella, Mirna Manni, Sandro Scarmiglia, Toni Bellucci, Maria Pizzi, Lughia, Maria Grazia Tata, Eva Gerd, Petra de Goede, Luigi Riccioni, Massimo De Angelis, Ambra Loreti, Lidia Bachis, Marco Paolini, and Mario Becciu.
The exhibition, organized by the Magazzini della Lupa cultural association under the patronage of the Municipality of Tuscania and the Lazio Regional Museums Directorate, set up in the evocative Cloister of the Museum, will welcome the works born from the artists' individual research and reflection on such an important theme as the Stations of the Cross, not linked to traditional iconography but open to the personal interpretation of each artist.
Viae Crucum i.e., the paths of suffering, wants to be the vision of the world in which we live, in times of wars, migrations, uprooting and barred borders, as well as the life journey of men among injustices and pains often to be suffered. It wants to be that path of suffering of so many women who are victims of violence, the memory of too many innocent deaths but also the thought to those who travel to a free country today. It wants to be the voice of the endless crosses of all those who suffer, cultivating the hope of liberation.
This is how the exhibition's critic/curator Giuseppe Salerno writes: "Immersed in the same time and united by the same culture, we differ in our belonging, experience, knowledge and sensitivity, but we all indistinctly accrue something that we drag into the depths of our soul and marks our existence. We pass through places, meet people and face situations accompanied by that vision of ours that, in a world that is homogenized and more and more drowsy every day, makes us unique and recognizable by anyone who uses their eyes not only to look. Sometimes the travails of an entire life, sometimes some specific episodes, deserve to be recounted so that they may be a stimulus, a teaching or a warning to others. Viae Crucum are the traces of different paths, of matured awarenesses placed on stage by artists who live the need to make manifest a feeling in front of which none of us is allowed to remain indifferent... ."
The exhibition with free admission, will be held from April 1 to June 4, 2023 at the Tuscania National Archaeological Museum in Largo Mario Moretti 1. Open Tuesday through Sunday, 8:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
