Art Conversations - Sept. 19, 2024 - The Nemi Ship Museum on Slash Radio Web

On Sept. 19, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., the 'Art Conversations' program will resume on Slash Radio Web. The new cycle, titled ' Sentimental Archaeologies . Stories of extraordinary lives and passions', aims to tell the stories related to archaeological finds and the tenacious stubbornness of their discoverers, ordinary men, but driven by an incredible passion.

The first installment will be an all-Latium tale, a territory rich in history and the scene of two of the most important discoveries in the world of archaeology.

The archaeological excavation of the Roman Forum and the Palatine surroundings and the amazing story of the recovery of the Roman ships wanted by Caligula and then sunk in Lake Nemi.

Luisa Bartolucci, director of SlashRadio Web, and Elisabetta Borgia, official of the General Directorate of Education, Research and Cultural Institutions, Service I Office of Studies - MiC, will open the episode.

During the first part we will stroll through one of the most central areas of Rome, that of the Forums and the slopes of the Palatine, making the acquaintance of one of the protagonists of their history: Giacomo Boni. The episode will begin with an audio portrait of the archaeologist, by Giorgia Ciolli, an intern at the General Directorate for Education, Research and Cultural Institutes of the Ministry of Culture, and will follow with the valuable contribution of Professor Andrea Paribeni, Professor of Medieval Art History at the University of Urbino and among the curators of the exhibition 'Giacomo Boni. The Dawn of Modernity' (Rome, Colosseum Archaeological Park, December 14, 2021 - April 30, 2022). The narrative will be interspersed with readings of passages on Boni's personality and his discoveries.

In the second part we will move to the municipality of Nemi, on the shores of the lake of the same name, together with archaeological officer and director of the Nemi Museum of Roman Ships, Daniela De Angelis, to talk about the compelling story of Emperor Caligula's ships, the many attempts that led to their exceptional recovery, and the construction of the current museum. We will listen to an audio portrait of Caligula, edited by Serena Nicolì, an intern at the General Directorate for Education, Research and Cultural Institutions of the Ministry of Culture, and Luca Carbone; other pieces on the stories of those who attempted the recovery and the figure of Caligula will follow.

This will be followed by the column 'The Profession of the Archaeologist,' to delve into what this profession really consists of, outside of cinematic clichés, in which Serena Nicolì and Andrea Arcieri, an official at the Directorate General for Education, Research and Cultural Institutes of the Ministry of Culture, will speak.
