Conference "Outfitting Archaeology. Current projects and new proposals for national archaeological museums and parks."
Rome (RM)
On February 26 and 27, 2024 in Rome, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture at the Collegio Romano, the General Directorate of Museums is organizing the conference "Outfitting Archaeology. Current Projects and New Proposals for National Museums and Archaeological Parks."
More than 100 conference speakers, including archaeologists, architects, engineers, university professors, museologists and museographers, will take turns to illustrate and discuss some 40 projects, designed to build from scratch or renovate the displays of as many museums and national archaeological parks throughout Italy. The work will conclude with a panel discussion, coordinated by some of the personalities currently most competent to animate the debate around the intertwining of research, communication and museums.
For the Lazio Regional Museums Directorate, Lara Anniboletti, director of the National Archaeological Museum in Civitavecchia, and Daniela De Angelis, director of the Museum of Roman Ships in Nemi, are scheduled to participate.
Funded with investments from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (M1C3 Culture 4.0), sometimes systematized with other funding from the Ministry of Culture, the new displays will need to be able to meet multiple needs: clarity, to crisply convey selected information, with the use-accordingly-also of digital media; accessibility, to include every person who undertakes the visit; sustainability, to fit into the cycle of conservation and regeneration of the planet's resources; flexibility and practicality, to facilitate the rotation of the collections on display and the continuity of research; aesthetics, to contribute to well-being during the stay; and originality, to allow each context to emerge in its specificity and diversity.
Scientific and historical content related to archaeological heritage finds a decisive channel of expression in the permanent displays of museums and archaeological parks, through which the impact, attractiveness and effectiveness of archaeological communication in Italy will change in a few years.
